Support Cancer Research UK event in Merthyr this weekend

I recently visited the Cancer Research UK shop in Merthyr Tydfil (see below) and this weekend – 18th and 19th October – they have a two day festival in St Tydfil’s shopping centre with live bands, choirs and a bake sale. Good fun and a great way to support the work of this charity. Get along to support them.

Dawn Bowden AM, is backing a call from Cancer Research UK to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

The AM met staff and volunteers at the charity’s Merthyr Tydfil shop on Monday 7th October to play her part and show how local people can support the charity.

Predictions show that the number of people with cancer in the UK is set to rise steeply by 2030.

That’s why the AM has joined forces with Cancer Research UK to help accelerate the progress the charity is making and highlight the power of research in beating the disease.

Dawn said: “The work of Cancer Research UK is of great benefit constituents. So I was delighted to have the chance to meet local volunteers who give of their time to run the shop in Merthyr Tydfil. I thank them for their welcome, but most importantly the important funds they raise to help in funding research”.

The AM is encouraging people to support the charity in any way they can, whether it’s donating or buying from the shop, volunteering for a few hours a week, or signing up for a sporting challenge.

Cancer Research UK’s Merthyr Tydfil shop manager, said: “I would like to thank Dawn Bowden for visiting our store and supporting our charity. I think it’s an eye opener to see how a charity shop operates behind the scenes. The volunteers put so much hard work and passion into every aspect of the job, from shop duties to fundraising, without them none of our achievements would be possible!

As part of our up coming stand up to cancer campaign we have organised a 2 day festival in St Tydfil’s Shopping centre, Merthyr on the 18th & 19th October with live bands, choirs and our famous bake sale. join us and help us beat cancer sooner.”
