Dawn Bowden AM for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney has welcomed the support being offered to help people quit smoking. Dawn said:

“Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney has some of the highest rates of smoking in Wales but surveys tell us that most smokers do want to quit. Evidence also shows us that more smokers can give up tobacco with support rather than ‘going it alone’. The support can be offered through referrals and support services that can help people to break their smoking habit”.

“In addition we know the more people who can give up smoking the less it will cost our Welsh NHS. Sadly we know that statistics tell us that smoking causes over 5,000 deaths each year and costs our NHS around £302 million annually. I know smokers pay their taxes but I would rather they were healthier and lived longer”. Why not chose to live #Smokefree”.

“I have always been clear in my mind that we help people to quit smoking by offering support and that is why I welcome the Welsh Government’s new Tobacco Control Delivery Plan”.
