Jayne Edwards from Treharris is latest “Community Star”

Dawn Bowden AM and Gerald Jones MP for Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney have announced that the latest winner of their “Community Stars” award is Jayne Edwards from Treharris.

Jayne has worked at Treharris library for 27 years and has made sure it acts as a real hub for the local community. Jayne runs after school activities at the library to help children with their studies, and regularly organises events for the community. Over the cold winter months Jayne responded to the crisis situation by using the library as a collection point for food and clothes for homeless people.

Gerald Jones MP said “Sincere congratulations to you Jayne on being our latest Community Star. You go over and above what is needed and offer wider support to your community”.

Dawn Bowden AM said “I have seen at first-hand what Jayne does and she is a great asset to the area as she gives so much of her own time to help the community”.

“Community Star” awards were introduced by Gerald and Dawn after the programme “Valleys Cops” appeared on TV and tries to tackle negative stereotypes of Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney by highlighting examples of outstanding contributions to the local community.
