AM WELCOME FOR INVESTIGATION INTO ESTABLISHMENT OF ANIMAL OFFENDER REGISTER

The Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs has announced an investigation into the establishment of an Animal Offender Register in Wales. A Task and finish Group will be established to carry out the investigation.

Commenting on the announcement Dawn Bowden AM said:

“I have held discussions with the RSPCA over their call for introduction of an Animal Offender Register and have a great deal of empathy for the case they have advanced. I am therefore delighted that the Cabinet Secretary has taken the decision to set up a Task and Finish group to look into this issue, and I look forward the publication of the Group’s initial findings early next year.”

The Terms of Reference for the Group, including the key outputs and timeline have been agreed, and officials will now work with RSPCA Cymru to determine membership. The work of the Task and Finish Group will begin as soon as possible, with the first formal meeting to be held in September. Interim findings will be presented by 31 March 2018.
